Dear Citizens of Ames:
My name is Mike Miller and I am a local Main Street businessman. I am running for the At-Large seat on the Ames City Council and I am looking to you for support.
I am running because I believe I can bring a unique perspective to the council with my years of experience on several boards and commissions, and owning a small business for over five years. I have learned that listening to others, gathering pertinent information and then deciding on a course of action is a trait brought about by experience.
I have worked in Ames for the past 32 years and I have assisted this community to grow from a college town to become a thriving city. Using the leadership positions I have held on local boards and commissions I assisted in hiring the first Main Street Cultural District Coordinator and was a member of the arts portion of the Ames 2005 Planning Committee as President of the Ames Community Arts Council. I raised the funds for the building addition and light booth for the ACTORS Studio as 1st Vice President in charge of Building and Finance. Taking over the Treasurer position for the Ames Noon Kiwanis Club, I have gotten the billing schedule back on track by streamlining the billing system. As Vice Chair of the Public Arts Commission I led the planning for the installation of the willow sculpture, “Restless By Nature” by internationally known artist Patrick Dougherty, at Ada Hayden Heritage Park and saw it through to a successful conclusion for the people of Ames.
As the next At-Large council person, I will pledge to work just as hard, listen to the people of Ames and the experts on the issues before the council. Then I will make the right decisions to keep Ames a community we all can be proud to call our home.
